Roborock's Saros Z70: A Robot Vacuum with a Grabbing Arm

Roborock has unveiled its latest innovation in home cleaning technology: the Saros Z70 robot vacuum, equipped with a groundbreaking feature a foldable robotic arm known as the "OmniGrip." This advancement enables the device to pick up small objects, such as socks and light sandals, enhancing its cleaning efficiency by removing obstacles that typically hinder robotic vacuums.

Key Features of the Roborock Saros Z70:

  • OmniGrip Arm: The five-axis foldable arm can lift items weighing up to 300 grams. It utilizes precision sensors, an integrated camera, and an LED light to identify and grasp objects, ensuring a thorough cleaning process.

  • AI-Powered Navigation: The Saros Z70 employs advanced AI to detect items during its initial cleaning pass. After completing the vacuuming, it returns to collect identified objects, placing them in designated areas as specified by the user through the Roborock app.

  • Enhanced Cleaning Performance: By removing obstacles from the floor, the Saros Z70 ensures more comprehensive cleaning coverage, reaching areas that might otherwise be missed due to clutter.

  • User Customization: Through the Roborock app, users can activate the OmniGrip arm, define which objects the robot should interact with, and set specific locations for placing the picked-up items, offering a personalized cleaning experience.

This innovation addresses a common limitation in robotic vacuums—the inability to handle small obstacles—thereby streamlining the cleaning process and reducing the need for human intervention. The Saros Z70 is expected to be available for purchase in the first half of 2025, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of smart home appliances.

In addition to the Saros Z70, Roborock has announced two other models:

  • Saros 10R: Similar to the Z70 but without the robotic arm, it features dual-light 3D Time-Of-Flight (ToF) technology and an RGB camera powered by AI, capable of avoiding small obstacles like cables.
  • Saros 10: Equipped with a traditional laser navigation sensor that can retract into the body, allowing it to fit more easily under furniture.

These developments underscore Roborock's commitment to advancing home cleaning technology, offering consumers more efficient and autonomous solutions for maintaining cleanliness in their living spaces.
